      Description

      const mytext = ':\n';
      console.error(`mytext: $

      {JSON.stringify(mytext, null, 2)}

      `);
      const escaped = escape(mytext);
      console.error(`escaped: $

      {JSON.stringify(escaped, null, 2)}

      `);

      This is the error I am getting:

      [DEBUG] escaped: "<decode: mismatch for [%3A] got [OBJECT private sz:26]><decode: missing data>"

      If I run this in regular JavaScript, it works correctly and I get this:

      escaped: "%3A%0A"

      UPDATE: I have also tried using encodeURI as a replacement for escape but I get the same results.
